Download Melon Sandbox (Melon Playground) Free — Android, iOS & PC
Melon Sandbox — the game formerly called Melon Playground — is a free 2D physics sandbox where you experiment with realistic ragdoll physics. There’s no goal and no score: you spawn items, characters and contraptions onto a flat map and see what happens. That open-ended freedom, plus a massive library of community mods, made it one of the most-downloaded mobile games in the world, with over 100 million downloads. This page explains what it is, where to download it officially, and how to load it up with free mods.
What is Melon Sandbox?
It’s a ragdoll physics sandbox. A few of the things players do:
- Ragdoll experiments — spawn a person and test what weapons, tools and hazards do.
- Build machines and vehicles — connect items with ropes, hinges and wiring (the game’s “chips”) to make working contraptions.
- Recreate scenes — stage battles, set traps, or rebuild a favourite game or movie moment.
- Add mods — import community-made content for characters, weapons and whole themed packs the base game doesn’t include.
Melon Playground or Melon Sandbox — which do I download?
They’re the same game. “Melon Playground” was the original name; the developer renamed it to “Melon Sandbox.” The store listing may say either. Mods work in both — if a guide refers to “Melon Playground”, it applies to your Melon Sandbox install too. It was created by a developer known as Sliz and is published by DUCKY LTD (originally released under the Studio 27 name, which still appears in the package ID com.studio27.MelonPlayground).
Download the game
Always install from the official store. These are the real listings from the developer:
| Platform | Where to get it | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Android | Google Play | Requires Android 7.1+ |
| iOS / iPad | App Store | iPhone and iPad |
| PC | Via an Android emulator | There is no native desktop build |
| Browser | Web-game sites | Free, but cannot load mods |
Is it free?
Being straight with you: it depends on the platform, and it isn’t always free. That’s the honest answer, and it’s why so many people go looking for cracked APKs. The mods on this site are always free — every one, with no sign-up and no payment. But the base game is the developer’s product, and buying it is what keeps updates coming.
Do NOT download a “mod APK”
Search results are stuffed with “Melon Sandbox MOD APK — All Unlocked”. Skip them, for practical reasons:
- It doesn’t give you mods. A mod APK is a repackaged copy of the game. The characters, weapons and maps you actually want come from mod files, which work on the normal store version.
- Google Play Protect flags them on install. Your own phone is telling you something.
- You must switch off “install from unknown sources” — a protection that then stays off.
- Your updates stop. New mods built for the latest version then break on your frozen copy.

How to play on PC
There’s no official desktop version. To play on a PC or laptop you run the Android build inside an emulator (BlueStacks, LDPlayer and similar). Install the emulator, sign in to Google Play inside it, then install Melon Sandbox exactly as you would on a phone. Mods work in an emulator, because it’s running the real Android app.
Can I play it in a browser?
Yes — browser versions exist and are free, which is handy on a school Chromebook or a shared computer where you can’t install anything. The catch: browser builds cannot import mods. If mods are what you came for, you need the installed app. More on this: Melon Playground on Playhop.
Now add some mods
This is the part the app store doesn’t give you. Once the game is installed:
- Pick a mod from our library — free, checked before listing, no sign-up.
- Download the file. It saves to Downloads on Android, or the Files app on iOS.
- Open the game’s mods menu and tap Import.
- Restart the game and look under User Mods in the spawn menu.
